Optical Bench Setup

An optical bench setup is a modular arrangement of optical components used to guide, align, and measure light in a controlled engineering environment. Components such as light sources, lenses, mirrors, apertures, and detectors are mounted on a rigid rail or table, then positioned along a common optical axis to control beam direction, focus, and spacing. This configuration supports systematic testing of imaging systems, laser assemblies, sensors, and measurement instruments. By making component positions and alignment reproducible, optical bench setups help engineers evaluate performance, identify optical errors, calibrate devices, and develop reliable prototypes.

Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) is an emerging technology capable of imaging optical absorption contrasts in vivo with cellular resolution and sensitivity. Here, we provide a visualized instruction on the experimental protocols of OR-PAM, including system configuration, system alignment, typical in vivo experimental procedures, and functional imaging schemes.

A fast and inexpensive method for the behavioral determination of hearing parameters like hearing thresholds, hearing impairments or phantom perceptions (subjective tinnitus) is described. It uses pre-pulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response and can be easily implemented in a personal computer using a programmable AD/DA-converter and a piezo sensor.

We demonstrate the transmission of multiple independent signals through a multimode fiber using wavefront shaping employing a single spatial light modulator. By modulating the wavefront for each signal individually, spatially separated foci are transmitted. Potential applications are multiplexed data transfer in communications engineering and endoscopic light delivery in biophotonics.
