Simultaneous Multi-surface Anodization

Simultaneous multi-surface anodization is an electrochemical engineering process that forms protective or functional oxide layers on multiple surfaces of a component in a single treatment. An applied electrical potential drives oxidation at the selected surfaces while an electrolyte completes the circuit, allowing surface chemistry and coating formation to occur concurrently rather than sequentially. This approach can improve processing efficiency and promote consistent treatment of complex geometries, including parts with several exposed faces or internal and external regions. It is relevant to corrosion protection, wear resistance, surface functionalization, and the fabrication of engineered components that require controlled oxide coatings.

This protocol presents a step-by-step guide for the Simultaneous Label-free Autofluorescence Multi-harmonic (SLAM) microscopic technique, including details on how to generate the laser light source, prepare a tissue sample, conduct imaging, and analyze the data. SLAM advances nonlinear microscopy by measuring four complementary label-free contrasts to investigate the tissue microenvironment.

Enrichment of Anode-Respiring Bacteria Using an On-Site Electrochemical System

Source: Okamoto, A., et al. Self-standing Electrochemical Set-up to Enrich Anode-respiring Bacteria On-site. J. Vis. Exp. (2018)This video demonstrates the use of an on-site electrochemical system to enrich anode-respiring bacteria (ARB) from natural reservoirs. A redox gradient is established by placing the anode in oxygen-free deep water and the cathode in oxygen-rich surface water. ARB form biofilms and transfer electrons to the anode, which flows to the cathode, where oxygen is reduced,...

2013

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that has shown initial therapeutic effects in several neurological conditions. The main mechanism underlying these therapeutic effects is the modulation of cortical excitability. Therefore, online monitoring of cortical excitability would help guide stimulation parameters and optimize its therapeutic effects. In the present article we review the use of a novel device that combines simultaneous tDCS and...

The Effect of Anodization Parameters on the Aluminum Oxide Dielectric Layer of Thin-Film Transistors

2020

Anodization parameters for growth of the aluminum-oxide dielectric layer of zinc-oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs) are varied to determine the effects on the electrical parameter responses. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is applied to a Plackett-Burman design of experiments (DOE) to determine the manufacturing conditions that result in optimized device performance.
