Unperturbed Exposure Conditions

Unperturbed exposure conditions describe a controlled state in which a material, device, or system encounters an intended environment without external interference or unintended changes to the test setup. Engineers establish these conditions by stabilizing relevant variables, such as temperature, pressure, fluid flow, chemical composition, or applied radiation, while monitoring the exposure over time. This approach helps separate the system’s intrinsic response from effects caused by vibration, contamination, handling, or fluctuating surroundings. Unperturbed exposure conditions support reliable durability testing, corrosion and degradation studies, sensor characterization, and performance evaluation, improving the reproducibility and interpretation of engineering experiments.

2018

This study describes a protocol to measure exposure levels in the 2.4 GHz band, avoiding the uncertainties caused by the use of personal exposimeters as measuring devices. These alterations of the exposure levels should be taken into account, especially in compliance testing, where exposure limits are defined from non-perturbed data.

2013

A whole-body nanoparticle aerosol inhalation exposure facility was constructed for nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) inhalation toxicology studies. This system provides nano-TiO2 aerosol test atmospheres that have: 1) a steady mass concentration; 2) a homogenous composition free of contaminants; and 3) a stable particle size distribution during aerosol generation.

Fear Conditioning

2023

Fear Conditioning is a type of learning in which an association is established between a negative unpleasant event and a harmless stimulus. This leads to a fear of the harmless stimulus. This process is largely mediated by the amygdala, which is a brain region involved in emotions and stress reactions. Fear conditioning can be utilized in several ways to understand different aspects of learning and memory. This video presents an overview of the principles behind fear conditioning, discusses the...
