Aortic Ct Angiography

Aortic CT angiography is a noninvasive imaging technique that uses computed tomography and iodinated contrast material to visualize the aorta and its major branches, supporting rapid evaluation of vascular disease. During the examination, contrast is injected into a vein and timed CT scans capture X-ray attenuation within the blood, allowing software to reconstruct detailed cross-sectional and three-dimensional images. In medicine, aortic CT angiography helps assess aneurysms, dissections, stenosis, traumatic injury, and other abnormalities, while also guiding treatment planning and follow-up. Its speed and high spatial resolution make it especially valuable when clinicians need to evaluate potentially life-threatening aortic conditions.

There is great need to identify atherosclerosis non-invasively, and here we demonstrate how FDG-PET/CT can be used to detect and quantify atherosclerotic plaque activity and vascular inflammation.

Full-root aortic valve replacement by stentless aortic xenograft is a viable option in patients with small aortic roots. We describe, a technique for the full-root implantation of stentless aortic xenografts, with emphasis on the management of the proximal suture line and coronary anastomoses, and discuss its limitations and alternative options.

Assessing Vessel Perfusion via Angiography: A Technique to Introduce Contrast Agent in Descending Aorta to Visualize Blood Vessel Perfusion in Rabbit Model

2025

This video describes the technique for performing angiography by injecting a contrast agent into the descending aorta to visualize blood vessel perfusion in a rabbit model. This technique helps to understand the perfusion in blood vessels with blockages and after treatment during recovery.

Aortic Ring Assay

Angiogenesis, the sprouting of blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature, is associated with both natural and pathological processes. Here we demonstrate an aortic ring assay that allows angiogenic potentiators and inhibitors to be directly added to aortic rings in culture. Sprouting and neovessel outgrowth can be determined by inspecting the aortic rings over a period of 6-12 days.
