Clinical Data Integration

Clinical Data Integration is the process of combining health information from multiple sources into a coherent, accessible resource for clinical care, research, and health system management. It uses interoperability standards, data extraction and transformation, terminology mapping, and quality control to harmonize information from electronic health records, laboratory systems, medical imaging, registries, and patient-generated data. In medicine, integrated data can support comprehensive patient assessment, clinical decision-making, population health analysis, and outcomes research. Reliable integration also enables longitudinal records and more consistent analysis across institutions, while addressing challenges such as inconsistent formats, duplicate records, missing values, privacy, and data security.

Cutaneous tumors are often discarded following Mohs micrographic surgery. A protocol is described here that enables clinical support staff to effectively process and store cutaneous tumor (e.g., squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma) samples for downstream laboratory applications without interfering with clinical operations.
