Cobb Angle Correction

Cobb Angle Correction refers to reducing the measured curvature of the spine, most commonly in scoliosis, to improve alignment and limit progression. Clinicians quantify the deformity on standing spinal radiographs by drawing lines along the upper and lower end vertebrae of the curve and measuring the angle between their perpendiculars; correction is then assessed by comparing pre- and post-treatment values. Bracing can apply external forces to guide growth in developing patients, while spinal instrumentation and fusion may provide structural correction for more severe or progressive curves. The Cobb angle supports diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation of outcomes in spinal deformity care.

Distance Corrections

2025

To achieve precise distance measurements, especially in surveying and construction, certain corrections must be applied to account for potential sources of error like the standardization errors, temperature variations, and slope adjustments.Standardization error emerges when measurement equipment undergoes changes, such as wear, repairs, or weather impacts. To address this, surveyors compare the equipment’s readings to a standard. This process identifies any deviation that might lead to...

Power Factor Correction

The power transmission to a factory involves the transfer of apparent power, a combination of active and reactive power. The power factor measures how effectively electrical power is converted into useful work output. The ratio of the real power (KW) that does the work to the apparent power (KVA) supplied to the circuit. A poor power factor means the inductive electrical load absorbs more reactive power, causing a low lagging power factor. This results in large voltage drops across the load...

Contact Angle

When a solid is dipped inside a liquid, the liquid surface becomes curved near the contact. For some solid–liquid interfaces, the liquid is pulled up along the solid, while for others, the liquid surface is convex or depressed near the solid surface. This phenomenon can be explained using the concept of cohesive and adhesive forces. The adhesive force is the molecular force between molecules of different materials, that is, between the molecules of the solid and the liquid. The cohesive force...

Open Angle Glaucoma: Treatment

2023

In open-angle glaucoma, the iridocorneal angle remains open, but the trabecular meshwork becomes stiff, slowing down the outflow of aqueous humor. This causes a buildup of aqueous humor in the anterior chamber, leading to a sudden increase in intraocular pressure. The treatment for open-angle glaucoma focuses on reducing the elevated intraocular pressure by either decreasing the secretion of aqueous humor or increasing its outflow. Drugs such as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, α2- and...
