Coping Strategies Intervention

Coping Strategies Intervention is a structured psychosocial approach that helps people manage the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral challenges associated with illness, treatment, or other stressful medical experiences. It works by identifying stressors and unhelpful responses, then teaching practical skills such as cognitive reframing, problem-solving, relaxation, communication, and emotion regulation. In medicine, clinicians may adapt these strategies to a patient’s diagnosis, symptoms, support system, and treatment goals. The intervention can strengthen self-management, improve adherence and quality of life, and support psychological adjustment alongside medical care, although it complements rather than replaces treatment for the underlying condition.
