Fgf-2 Levels

FGF-2 levels refer to the amount or concentration of fibroblast growth factor 2 in a biological sample or tissue, an important indicator of signaling involved in cell growth and repair. FGF-2 binds fibroblast growth factor receptors with support from heparan sulfate proteoglycans, activating intracellular pathways that regulate proliferation, migration, survival, and differentiation. In medicine, measuring or modifying FGF-2 levels can help assess angiogenesis, wound healing, tissue regeneration, and abnormalities associated with cancer or other diseases. Understanding these changes supports biomarker development and the design of therapies that control vascular growth and cellular repair.

2014

Work with infectious Ebola viruses is restricted to biosafety level 4 laboratories. Tetracistronic minigenome-containing replication and transcription-competent virus like particles (trVLPs) represent a lifecycle modeling system that allows us to safely model multiple infectious cycles under biosafety level 2 conditions, relying exclusively on Ebola virus components.

High-Level and Low-Level Awareness

Controlled processes in human consciousness represent high-alert mental states where individuals deliberately focus their attention on achieving specific goals. Controlled processes can be seen in situations like mastering new technology, where a person might become so absorbed that they ignore surrounding distractions. Such processes involve selective attention, requiring one to concentrate on particular elements of experience while disregarding others. These are governed by executive...

Building and Operating a Low-Cost Elevated Carbon Dioxide Growth Chamber to Evaluate Microgreen Physiology under Spaceflight-Relevant CO2 Levels

2026

This protocol describes how to construct and operate a small, low-cost growth chamber capable of maintaining extreme carbon dioxide (exCO2) levels for plant experiments. The chamber enables reproducible studies of microgreen physiology under spaceflight-relevant atmospheric conditions, using a single-board computer-based monitoring and control system and a passive hydroponic wicking system.

Leveling Effect

In acid-base chemistry, the leveling effect refers to the limitation imposed by the solvent on the strength of acids and bases in solution. When a base stronger than the solvent's conjugate base is used, it deprotonates the solvent until the base is entirely consumed, making it ineffective against weaker acids. Conversely, an acid stronger than the solvent's conjugate acid protonates the solvent until the acid is depleted, rendering it ineffective against weaker bases. Essentially, the solvent...
