Ground-glass Opacities

Ground-glass opacities are hazy areas of increased lung attenuation on computed tomography in which underlying bronchial and vascular markings remain visible. They arise when air in the alveoli is partially replaced by fluid, cells, blood, or other material, or when the interstitium becomes thickened without completely obscuring the lung architecture. Ground-glass opacities can occur with infection, pulmonary edema, hemorrhage, inflammation, drug toxicity, or early fibrotic disease. Their distribution, density, and change over time, interpreted alongside symptoms and clinical history, help clinicians distinguish transient inflammation from progressive lung injury and guide further evaluation and treatment.

The Looking Glass Self

2025

The concept of the looking-glass self describes how an individual's self-concept is shaped by their perception of how others see them. This psychological theory, first introduced by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley in 1902, posits that self-identity emerges in a social context and is influenced by the judgments—real or imagined—of others.Research suggests that individuals frequently overestimate how positively others perceive them. This is particularly evident in physical self-perception,...

Taping Over Different Ground Profiles

2025

Taping over varying ground profiles requires careful adaptation to achieve accurate measurements. On smooth, level ground with minimal vegetation, the tape can rest directly on the ground. Here, the taping team, typically consisting of a head and a rear tapeman, coordinates their positions with clear communication. The rear tapeman holds the tape at the starting point and guides the head tapeman toward a range pole placed beyond the endpoint, using hand or voice signals to ensure alignment.On...

This article outlines a protocol for the detection of one or more plasma and/or intracellular membrane proteins using Ground State Depletion (GSD) super-resolution microscopy in mammalian cells. Here, we discuss the benefits and considerations of using such approaches for the visualization and quantification of cellular proteins.

Connective Tissue Fibers and Ground Substance

One of the significant functions of connective tissue is connecting tissues and organs. Unlike epithelial tissue that is composed of cells closely packed with little or no extracellular space in between, connective tissue cells are dispersed in a matrix. The matrix usually includes a large amount of extracellular material produced by the connective tissue cells that are embedded within it. It plays a significant role in the functioning of this tissue. The major component of the matrix is a...
