Ct Mri Data Fusion

CT-MRI data fusion is an imaging technique that combines computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to create a spatially aligned representation of anatomy. CT provides high-resolution information about bone and tissue density, while MRI supplies detailed soft-tissue contrast. The process uses image registration to match corresponding anatomical structures, often through rigid or deformable transformations, and then overlays or integrates the datasets for joint interpretation. In medicine, this fusion supports radiotherapy planning, image-guided surgery, tumor localization, and assessment of complex anatomy, potentially improving target definition and treatment precision.

Introduction: MRI and CT scans are crucial advancements in medical imaging techniques, playing a vital role in diagnosing conditions related to the gastrointestinal (GI) system. Each scan serves distinct purposes, targets specific areas, and requires unique nursing duties. Description of the Procedures Computed Tomography (CT) scan: Computed Tomography (CT) scans use X-ray technology to generate detailed images of bones, organs, and tissues. During the scan, the patient lies on a moving table...

Source: Alycia G. Berman, James A. Schaber, and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana Here we will demonstrate the fundamentals of single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) imaging using mice. The technique involves injecting a radionuclide into a mouse, imaging the animal after it is distributed throughout the body, and then reconstructing the produced images to create a volumetric dataset. This can...

A step-by-step walkthrough is provided for each processing step, from manual infarct segmentation on CT/MRI to subsequent registration to standard space, along with practical recommendations and illustrations with exemplary cases.

Nuclear Fusion

The process of converting very light nuclei into heavier nuclei is also accompanied by the conversion of mass into large amounts of energy, a process called fusion. The principal source of energy in the sun is a net fusion reaction in which four hydrogen nuclei fuse and ultimately produce one helium nucleus and two positrons. A helium nucleus has a mass that is 0.7% less than that of four hydrogen nuclei; this lost mass is converted into energy during the fusion. This reaction produces about...
