Household Consumption Data

Household consumption data are records of the goods and services used or purchased by households over a defined period, providing evidence of real-world demand and use. In medicine, these data are collected through household surveys, consumption diaries, purchase records, or interviews that capture medicines obtained, sources of access, frequency of use, and spending. Researchers use the resulting information to assess medicine availability, affordability, self-medication, treatment patterns, and differences among populations. These findings support pharmaceutical policy, health-system planning, monitoring of medicine use, and evaluation of access to essential treatments, especially where clinical or facility-based records are incomplete.
