Microvascular Criteria

Microvascular criteria are standardized clinical, imaging, or laboratory findings used to identify and characterize disease affecting small blood vessels, including arterioles, capillaries, and venules. They assess changes such as reduced tissue perfusion, altered vessel density or morphology, impaired endothelial function, and abnormal leakage, linking structural injury with disturbed oxygen and nutrient delivery. In medicine, these criteria support the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, systemic inflammatory disorders, and peripheral vascular disease. Consistent criteria also improve risk stratification, treatment evaluation, and comparison across clinical studies, helping researchers connect microvascular dysfunction with organ injury and long-term outcomes.

Criteria for Causality: Bradford Hill Criteria - II

2025

The Bradford Hill criteria serve as guidelines for establishing causative links in epidemiological research. Beyond Strength, Consistency, Specificity, and Temporality, key criteria also include Biological Gradient, Plausibility, Coherence, Experiment, and Analogy. These principles assist scientists in assessing the likelihood of causation in complex biological contexts. Below is a summary of these concepts: Biological Gradient: Also known as the dose-response relationship, this criterion...

Criteria for Causality: Bradford Hill Criteria - I

2025

The Bradford Hill criteria are a group of principles that provide a framework to determine a causal relationship between a specific factor and a disease. There are nine criteria that are pivotal in assessing causality in epidemiological studies. Here's a closer look at Strength, Consistency, Specificity, and Temporality criteria with definitions and examples: Strength: This criterion refers to the size of the association between the factor and the outcome. A strong association suggests a...

There are many available options for management of the patient with trigeminal neuralgia. Microvascular decompression, while the most invasive of all options, is also the most effective at achieving long term remission of symptoms. Video instruction on how to maximize efficacy and minimize complications with this procedure is described.

Laser Doppler: A Tool for Measuring Pancreatic Islet Microvascular Vasomotion In Vivo

Pancreatic islet microvascular vasomotion regulates islet blood distribution and maintains the physiological function of islet β cells. This protocol describes using a laser Doppler monitor to determine the functional status of pancreatic islet microvascular vasomotion in vivo and to assess the contributions of pancreatic islet microcirculation to pancreatic-related diseases.

Yield Criteria for Ductile Materials under Plane Stress

2024

In designing structural elements and machine parts using ductile materials, it is crucial to ensure that these components withstand applied stresses without yielding. Yielding is initially determined through a tensile test, which evaluates the material's response to uniaxial stress. However, tensile stress is insufficient when components face biaxial or plane stress conditions This condition requires advanced criteria to predict failure. The Maximum Shearing Stress Criterion, also known as the...
