Uterine Artery Embolization

Uterine artery embolization is a minimally invasive radiologic procedure that treats symptomatic uterine fibroids by reducing their blood supply, offering an alternative to surgical treatment. During the procedure, an interventional radiologist guides a catheter through an artery to the uterine arteries and releases small embolic particles that block blood flow to fibroid tissue while preserving circulation to most of the uterus. Reduced perfusion causes fibroids to shrink and can relieve heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure, and pain. The technique has expanded treatment options for people seeking symptom control without hysterectomy, although patient selection and reproductive goals require careful clinical evaluation.

Here, we introduce a novel approach-Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot-Tying for Uterine Vessel Occlusion during Hysterectomy with Cervical Cerclage in Large Uteri. A laparoscopic extracorporeal knot-pusher is used to perform cervical cerclage, achieving complete occlusion of uterine arteries. Thereafter, the corpus uteri are excised to enhance visibility and facilitate the operative field.

Uterine Tubes

2024

The uterine or fallopian tubes function as the conduit through which oocytes travel from the ovaries to the uterus. Each fallopian tube measures approximately 10 to 13 cm long and is anatomically divided into the infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus, and interstitial part (or intramural segment). The infundibulum is characterized by its funnel shape and features extensions called fimbriae which reach towards the peritoneal cavity. These fimbriae play a critical role during ovulation as they extend...
