Balance Ball Task

The Balance Ball Task is a behavioral assay that measures an animal’s ability to maintain posture and coordinated movement on an unstable, rotating or shifting ball, providing a functional readout of motor and balance control. Successful performance requires the nervous system to integrate vestibular, proprioceptive, and visual information while cerebellar and brainstem circuits adjust muscle activity to stabilize the body. Researchers use measures such as time on the ball, movement patterns, and loss of balance to evaluate motor learning, coordination, and neurological impairment. In neuroscience, the task supports studies of sensorimotor integration, cerebellar function, injury, disease, and treatment effects.

Piaget's Conservation Task and the Influence of Task Demands

Source: Laboratories of Judith Danovitch and Nicholaus Noles—University of Louisville Jean Piaget was a pioneer in the field of developmental psychology, and his theory of cognitive development is one of the most well-known psychological theories. At the heart of Piaget’s theory is the idea that children’s ways of thinking change over the course of childhood. Piaget provided evidence for these changes by comparing how children of different ages responded to questions and problems that he...

Developing Neuron Balls Using a Hanging Drop Culture Technique

This video demonstrates the process of generating neuron balls using a hanging drop culture technique. Within the hanging drops, cells move towards the bottom, self-assembled into three-dimensional structures forming neuron balls, which can be used for neurobiological studies.

Balancing Redox Equations

Electrochemistry is the science involved in the interconversion of electrical and chemical reactions. Such reactions are called reduction-oxidation, or redox reactions. These important reactions are defined by changes in oxidation states for one or more reactant elements and include a subset of reactions involving the transfer of electrons between reactant species. Electrochemistry as a field has evolved to yield sufficient insights on the fundamental principles of redox chemistry and multiple...
