Comparative Omics

Comparative omics is the systematic comparison of large-scale molecular datasets, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, across organisms, tissues, cell types, or experimental conditions. By aligning datasets and evaluating shared, divergent, or condition-dependent molecular features, researchers can identify conserved pathways, species-specific signatures, and coordinated changes in gene or protein activity. In neuroscience, comparative omics helps relate molecular variation to brain development, neural circuitry, behavior, and disease. These analyses can reveal candidate biomarkers, clarify mechanisms underlying neurological disorders, and guide cross-species studies that connect model organisms with human biology.

Comparing Copy Number Variations and SNPs

2021

Sequencing of the human genome has opened up several best-kept secrets of the genome. Scientists have identified thousands of genome variations that exist within a population. These variations can be a single nucleotide or a larger chromosomal variation. Copy number variations or CNVs are the structural variations that cover more than 1kb of DNA sequence. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), on the other hand, is a single nucleotide change or a point mutation that is found in more than 1%...

2019

Drosophila flight muscle is a powerful model to study transcriptional regulation, alternative splicing, metabolism, and mechanobiology. We present a protocol for dissection of fluorescent-labeled flight muscle from live pupae to generate highly enriched samples ideal for proteomics and deep-sequencing. These samples can offer important mechanistic insights into diverse aspects of muscle development.
