Electrode Casing Insertion

Electrode casing insertion is the assembly process of placing a neural electrode within a protective, insulating housing so its conductive interface remains correctly positioned for contact with tissue. During insertion, the electrode is aligned and seated inside the casing, which stabilizes the shaft and limits unintended electrical contact; the exposed electrode site can then interface with neural tissue and connected recording or stimulation hardware. In neuroscience, this step supports the fabrication of probes used to measure electrical activity or deliver controlled signals. Accurate insertion helps preserve electrode geometry, signal quality, and consistent performance across experiments.

We have developed an in vitro unfolded hippocampus which preserves CA1-CA3 array of neurons. Combined with the penetrating micro-electrode array, neural activity can be monitored in both the longitudinal and transverse orientations. This method provides advantages over hippocampal slice preparations as the propagation in the entire hippocampus can be recorded simultaneously.

On comparing the reactivity of silver and lead, it is observed that the two ionic species, Ag+ (aq) and Pb2+ (aq), show a difference in their redox reactivity towards copper: the silver ion undergoes spontaneous reduction, while the lead ion does not. This relative redox activity can be easily quantified in electrochemical cells by a property called cell potential. This property is commonly known as cell voltage in electrochemistry, and it is a measure of the energy which accompanies the charge...
