Hek293t Cells

HEK293T cells are an immortalized human embryonic kidney-derived cell line widely used as a versatile platform for gene expression and molecular biology experiments. They express the simian virus 40 (SV40) large T antigen, which supports replication of plasmids carrying an SV40 origin and enables efficient transient transfection and high protein production. In neuroscience, researchers use HEK293T cells to test neuronal receptors, ion channels, signaling proteins, and reporter constructs under controlled conditions before studying them in neurons. They also support recombinant viral vector production, helping investigators evaluate gene function and develop tools for manipulating neural circuits.

We present here a cell culture method for inducing mesenchymal-epithelial transitions (MET) in sarcoma cells based on combined ectopic expression of microRNA-200 family members and grainyhead-like 2 (GRHL2). This method is suitable for better understanding the biological impact of phenotypic plasticity on cancer aggressiveness and treatments.

Cell Aggregation Assay to Detect Trans Interactions between Cell Adhesion Molecules

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the technique to measure transcellular interactions between synaptic cell adhesion molecules through the HEK cell aggregation assay. In this assay, an equal number of HEK cells expressing a desired presynaptic cell adhesion molecule and a fluorescent protein are mixed with HEK cells expressing a post-synaptic cell adhesion molecule and another fluorescent protein. The interaction between the cell adhesion molecules forces the cells to aggregate, which can be...
