Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a hands-on method that applies pressure, stroking, kneading, or manipulation to soft tissues to influence comfort, movement, and physiological responses. From a neuroscience perspective, touch activates skin and muscle mechanoreceptors, sending sensory signals through peripheral nerves and the spinal cord to brain networks involved in pain, stress, and body awareness; these inputs can also affect autonomic nervous system activity. Research uses massage therapy to examine pain modulation, muscle recovery, relaxation, and responses to stress, while clinical applications include supportive care for musculoskeletal discomfort and rehabilitation. Understanding its neural mechanisms may improve treatment design and clarify how tactile stimulation affects health and behavior.

Fixation and Operational Method for Abdominal Massage in T2DM Mice

2025

This study introduces an abdominal massage device for mice that replicates manual massage while minimizing stress and tissue damage. The device significantly lowers blood glucose levels, improves lipid metabolism, and enhances insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetes mice, offering a promising, non-invasive therapeutic approach with clinical potential.

Auricular Point Acupressure Therapy: A Safe and Effective Treatment for Postsurgical Abortion Recovery

2026

This protocol details auricular plaster therapy using Vaccaria seeds on specific acupoints to promote recovery after surgical abortion. As a non-pharmacological adjunct to conventional treatment, it reduces vaginal bleeding duration, alleviates symptoms, and accelerates menstrual cycle restoration, demonstrating both safety and efficacy in clinical application.

Application of Consistent Massage-Like Perturbations on Mouse Calves and Monitoring the Resulting Intramuscular Pressure Changes
