Nerve Branching

Nerve branching is the process by which a neuron’s axon or dendrite divides into multiple extensions, enabling communication with several targets and shaping neural circuit connectivity. During development, growth cones at the ends of neuronal processes respond to attractive and repulsive guidance cues, while local signaling and cytoskeletal remodeling promote or restrict the formation of collateral branches. Branching patterns help establish sensory, motor, and central nervous system networks by distributing signals across tissues and coordinating inputs from diverse regions. Studying nerve branching supports research on neural development, circuit organization, injury-induced regeneration, and disorders involving abnormal connectivity.

Glycogen Branching Assay to Measure the Degree of Glycogen Branching

2025

In this video, we describe a qualitative spectrophotometric assay to determine the extent of branching in a glycogen sample with an uncharacterized structure. Comparing the absorbance maxima of the uncharacterized sample with that of polysaccharides with known branched structures indicates the presence of branching in the uncharacterized sample.

Financial accounting is essential for recording and reporting an organization's financial transactions. Statements like the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement provide a clear picture of the financial position. These reports are mainly used by external stakeholders such as investors, creditors, regulatory authorities, and tax officials to make informed decisions. The importance of financial accounting lies in its ability to ensure transparency, compliance with legal...

Source: Liau, E. S. et al. Visualization of Motor Axon Navigation and Quantification of Axon Arborization In Mouse Embryos Using Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy. J. Vis. Exp. (2018). This video demonstrates the use of light sheet fluorescence microscopy to image motor neuron projections and axon branching in transgenic mouse embryos. It outlines the steps involved in sample preparation, imaging, and 3D reconstruction of axonal branching for assessing motor neuron growth and connectivity.

Removal of Branched and Cyclic Compounds by Urea Adduction for Uk'37 Paleothermometry

Source: Laboratory of Jeff Salacup - University of Massachusetts Amherst As mentioned in previous videos, the product of an organic solvent extraction, a total lipid extract (TLE), is often a complex mixture of hundreds, if not thousands, of different compounds. The researcher is often only interested in a handful of compounds. In the case of our two organic paleothermometers (Uk'37 and MBT/CBT), the interest is in only 6 compounds (2 alkenones and 4 isoprenoidal glycerol dialkyl glycerol...
