Video Capture Protocol

A video capture protocol is a standardized method for recording visual data under controlled conditions, enabling researchers to document and analyze behavior, movement, and experimental events reproducibly. In neuroscience, it typically specifies camera placement, field of view, illumination, frame rate, resolution, and synchronization with neural or physiological recordings so that observed actions can be aligned with underlying activity. Consistent acquisition reduces technical variability and supports reliable measurement of behaviors such as locomotion, exploration, and stimulus responses. The resulting videos can be reviewed manually or analyzed with computational tracking tools, strengthening behavioral quantification and linking visible outcomes to neural mechanisms.

The loss of honey bee colonies presents a challenge to crop pollination services. Current pollinator protection practices warrant an alternative approach to minimize the contact of honey bees to harmful pesticides using repellent chemistries. Here, we provide detailed methods for a visual tracking protocol to screen deterrents for bees.
