Concentric Spheres

Concentric spheres are spherical surfaces or shells that share a common center, a geometry that simplifies the analysis of fields, potentials, and interactions in physics. Their common center creates spherical symmetry, so quantities such as electric or gravitational fields can depend primarily on radial distance; applying Gauss’s law to a concentric spherical surface relates the field to the enclosed charge or mass and often shows that a uniform shell produces no field within it. This framework supports calculations involving charged conductors, dielectric layers, gravitational shells, and spherical capacitors. It also provides an idealized model for understanding how boundaries, material interfaces, and radial distributions influence physical behavior.

Source: Jose Roberto Moreto and Xiaofeng Liu, Department of Aerospace Engineering, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA Wind tunnel tests are useful in the design of vehicles and structures that are subjected to airflow during their use. Wind tunnel data are generated by applying a controlled air flow to a model of the object being studied. The test model usually has a similar geometry but is a smaller scale compared to the full-sized object. To ensure accurate and useful data is collected...

Concentration Cells

A concentration cell is a type of a voltaic cell constructed by connecting two almost identical half-cells, both based on the same half-reaction and using the same electrode, differing only in the concentration of one redox species. A concentration cell's potential, therefore, is determined only by the concentration difference of the particular redox species. Consider the following voltaic cell: From the given information, the cell potential of this concentration cell can be calculated using...
