Brainstorming Sessions

Brainstorming sessions are structured group or individual activities that generate many ideas for solving a problem, making them useful for studying creativity, decision-making, and collaboration in psychology. During a typical session, participants define a goal, produce ideas rapidly, and postpone evaluation so divergent thinking is not constrained by early criticism; ideas can then be organized and assessed during convergent thinking. This approach can reveal how attention, memory, motivation, social influence, and group dynamics affect ideation, while comparisons of individual and group formats help researchers examine collaborative creativity. In education, counseling, organizational research, and design, brainstorming supports hypothesis generation, intervention planning, and practical problem-solving.

Short session (≤10 min) high intensity interval training (HIIT) is emerging as an alternative to longer exercise modalities, yet the shorter variants are rarely modeled in animal studies. Here, we describe a 10 min, 3 day a week, uphill treadmill HIIT protocol that enhances physical performance in male and female aged mice.

This article describes how to record amygdala activity with magnetoencephalography (MEG). In addition this article will describe how to conduct trace fear conditioning without awareness, a task that activates the amygdala. It will cover 3 topics: 1) Designing a trace conditioning paradigm using backward masking to manipulate awareness. 2) Recording brain activity during the task using magnetoencephalography. 3) Using source imaging to recover signal from subcortical structures.

In recent years, there has been increasing interest in estimating the cortical sources of scalp measured electrical activity for cognitive neuroscience experiments. This article describes how high density EEG is acquired and how recordings are processed for cortical source estimation in children from the age of 2 years at the London Baby Lab.
