Personal Engagement

Personal engagement is the degree to which an individual invests attention, emotion, motivation, and behavior in an activity, relationship, or goal. In psychology, it develops when people perceive a situation as meaningful, relevant, and within their ability to influence, prompting sustained focus, active participation, and emotional involvement. Researchers examine personal engagement through self-reports, observed behavior, and indicators such as persistence, concentration, and willingness to contribute. Understanding these processes helps explain learning, workplace performance, therapeutic participation, and behavior change, while also informing strategies that strengthen motivation, connection, and long-term involvement.

Measuring Engagement of Spectators of Social Digital Games

2021

We propose a methodology that enables measuring engagement of spectators in a social digital game combining physiological and self-reported data. As this digital game involves a group of freely moving people, the experience is filmed using a synchronizing technique that links physiological data with events in the game.

Source: Heidbuechel, J. P., et al. Paramyxoviruses for Tumor-targeted Immunomodulation: Design and Evaluation Ex Vivo. J. Vis. Exp. (2019).This video demonstrates a cell-based assay to evaluate the target-specific immunomodulatory activity of a virally encoded bispecific T-cell engager (BTE). The BTE links tumor cells expressing a target receptor with T cells, triggering tumor lysis and enzyme release. A colorimetric readout, based on substrate conversion, indicates T-cell activation.
