Structural Protein Function

Białka strukturalne to klasa białek, które wspierają kształt i ruch komórek. Poza komórką białka te są obecne w strukturalnych częściach ciała, takich jak kości, chrząstki i skóra. 
Kolagen, najobficiej występujące białko u ssaków, jest białkiem strukturalnym występującym w całym ciele w macierzy zewnątrzkomórkowej. 
Białko to zwija się w potrójną helisę, która polimeryzuje w wydłużone fibryle, które następnie dalej łączą się w większe włókna. Wśród wielu funkcji strukturalnych przyczynia się do kształtowania komórek i tkanek.
Cytoszkielet składa się głównie z białek strukturalnych i stanowi podstawowy szkielet komórki. Zawiera trzy główne rodzaje filamentów: mikrofilamenty, włókna pośrednie i mikrotubule.
Aktyna jest białkiem strukturalnym, które tworzy mikrofilamenty. Białko to samopolimeryzuje się we włókna i przyczynia się do kształtu, organizacji, ruchu i podziału komórek.
Filamenty pośrednie mogą składać się z różnych białek w zależności od typu komórki. Na przykład pośrednie włókna keratynowe znajdują się w komórkach nabłonkowych, podczas gdy pośrednie włókna peryferynowe znajdują się w neuronach obwodowych. Podstawową funkcją strukturalną tych włókien jest wzmacnianie komórek i organizowanie ich w tkanki. 
Mikrotubule składają się z klasy białek strukturalnych zwanych tubulinami. Tubuliny samoorganizują się, tworząc mikrotubule, które przyczyniają się do organizacji cytoplazmy, w tym lokalizacji organelli. 
Białka strukturalne są niezbędne dla zdrowia organizmu, a mutacje w genach kodujących te białka mogą powodować różne choroby, w tym nieprawidłowości kostne i sercowo-naczyniowe.

funkcje białek strukturalnych

Białka strukturalne to kategoria białek odpowiedzialnych za funkcje od kształtu i ruchu komórek po zapewnianie wsparcia głównym strukturom, takim jak kości, chrząstki, włosy i mięśnie. Do tej grupy należą białka, takie jak kolagen, aktyna, miozyna i keratyna. Kolagen, najobficiej występujące białko u ssaków, występuje w całym organizmie. W tkance łącznej, takiej jak skóra, więzadła i ścięgna, zapewnia wytrzymałość na rozciąganie i elastyczność. W kościach i zębach mineralizuje, tworząc twarde tkanki i przyczynia się do ich nośności. Oprócz wsparcia strukturalnego kolagen może również oddziaływać z receptorami na powierzchni komórki i innymi cząsteczkami pośrednimi, regulując procesy komórkowe, takie jak wzrost i migracja, które obejmują zmiany w kształcie komórek i tkanek. Białka strukturalne tworzą podstawowy szkielet cytoszkieletu komórkowego. Cytoszkielet składa się z trzech rodzajów włókien, mikrofilamentów, włókien pośrednich i mikrotubul, a każdy z nich składa się z różnych białek strukturalnych. Mikrofilament powstaje, gdy aktyna samopolimeryzuje w długie, powtarzalne struktury. Te włókna aktynowe przyczyniają się do kształtu i organizacji komórek; dodatkowo mikrofilamenty mogą również przyczyniać się do ruchu i podziału komórek, jeśli działają w połączeniu z miozyną. Skład włókien pośrednich różni się w zależności od typu komórki. Istnieje około 70 różnych genów kodujących różne włókna pośrednie. Structural proteins give cells and tissues shape, support, and strength. They help build bones, cartilage, hair, and muscles. Important examples include collagen, actin, myosin, and keratin.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals. It is found throughout the body. In skin, ligaments, and tendons, collagen adds tensile strength and elasticity. In bones and teeth, it helps form hard, load-bearing tissue through mineralization.

Collagen also does more than provide support. It can interact with cell surface receptors and other molecules to help control cellular processes. These processes include growth and migration, which involve changes in cell and tissue shape.

Structural proteins also form the cell cytoskeleton, which is the internal framework of the cell. The cytoskeleton contains three kinds of filaments: microfilaments, intermediate filaments, and microtubules. Each filament type is built from different structural proteins.

Microfilaments form when actin self-polymerizes into long, repeating strands. These actin filaments help maintain cell shape and organization. They also work with myosin to support cell movement and cell division.

Intermediate filaments vary by cell type. Around 70 different genes code for these proteins. Epithelial cells contain keratin, peripheral neurons contain peripherin, and muscle cell sarcomeres contain desmin. Their main role is to reinforce cells and organize them into tissues.

Microtubules are made of tubulin proteins. Tubulins self-assemble into structures that help organize the cytoplasm and position organelles. Microtubules are also essential for mitosis and cell division. Because structural proteins are so widespread, mutations in their genes can cause serious effects. For example, collagen gene mutations can lead to osteogenesis imperfecta, which causes weak bones and connective tissue deformities, or Alport syndrome, which affects the kidneys, eyes, and ears.

Integrate evidence to develop a structural model of a DNA molecule. Using the model, develop and communicate an explanation for how DNA serves as a template for self-replication and encodes biological information.
EXPLANATION: Discussions of DNA in earlier grades have been limited to discussions of genes and the role of genes in the appearance and activities of an organism. Biology 1 represents a student's introduction to a molecular model of a DNA as well as the organization of DNA into genes and genes subsequently into chromosomes. Students should address interactions between genes in proteins which regulate both the shape and reproduction of DNA molecules. It is important to note that not all segments of DNA are transcribed for proteins. Portions of DNA are involved in regulating the expression of genes or affect the structure of the chromosomes (replication origin, centromeres, and telomeres).
