Polyaniline Coated Electrodes

Polyaniline-coated electrodes are conductive electrode surfaces modified with polyaniline, a redox-active conducting polymer, to improve electrical and chemical interactions at the electrode interface. Polyaniline conducts through a conjugated backbone, while protonation and oxidation-state changes regulate charge transport; electrodeposition can form an adherent, tunable film on the underlying material. In bioengineering, these coatings support biosensors, neural interfaces, and electrochemical devices by increasing effective surface area and enabling biomolecule immobilization. Their responsiveness to electrical and chemical conditions also makes them useful for signal transduction, although stability and biocompatibility must be evaluated for each application.

Nucleic acids are common analytes for assessing biological systems; however, bias from enzymatic manipulation can cause concern. Here a method is described for label-free detection of nucleic acids using polyaniline. This sensitive, cost-effective sensor technology can distinguish single nucleotide differences between molecules.

Here, we report the protocol for the fabrication of a Nafion-coated, polyaniline-functionalized, electrochemically reduced graphene oxide chemiresistive micro pH sensor. This chemiresistor-based, solid-state micro pH sensor can detect pH changes in real-time during a Lactococcus lactis fermentation process.

Standard Electrode Potentials

On comparing the reactivity of silver and lead, it is observed that the two ionic species, Ag+ (aq) and Pb2+ (aq), show a difference in their redox reactivity towards copper: the silver ion undergoes spontaneous reduction, while the lead ion does not. This relative redox activity can be easily quantified in electrochemical cells by a property called cell potential. This property is commonly known as cell voltage in electrochemistry, and it is a measure of the energy which accompanies the charge...
