Ultrasound Advanced Open Platform

An Ultrasound Advanced Open Platform is a programmable research system that provides flexible control of ultrasound hardware and software for developing and evaluating imaging and therapeutic methods in bioengineering. Transducer arrays convert electrical signals into acoustic waves, receive echoes from tissue or other materials, and use beamforming and signal processing to reconstruct images; open access to system parameters allows researchers to modify transmit sequences, data acquisition, and reconstruction algorithms. This flexibility supports tissue characterization, flow measurement, functional imaging, and therapeutic ultrasound studies. It also enables rapid prototyping, quantitative validation, and integration with emerging bioengineering approaches such as advanced image guidance and personalized treatment.

2013

We describe a new ultrasound-based vector tissue Doppler imaging technique to measure muscle contraction velocity, strain and strain rate with sub-millisecond temporal resolution during dynamic activities. This approach provides complementary measurements of dynamic muscle function and could lead to a better understanding of mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal disorders.
