Beta Catenin Dependent

Beta-catenin-dependent signaling is a cell communication mechanism in which the protein beta-catenin regulates gene expression, influencing cell fate, tissue organization, and development. When Wnt ligands bind Frizzled and LRP5/6 receptors, they inhibit the destruction complex containing APC, Axin, CK1, and GSK3β, allowing beta-catenin to accumulate, enter the nucleus, and interact with TCF/LEF transcription factors. In the absence of Wnt, the complex targets beta-catenin for phosphorylation and proteasomal degradation, limiting pathway activity. Studying this process helps explain embryonic patterning, stem-cell maintenance, and tissue repair, while dysregulated signaling is associated with cancers such as colorectal carcinoma.

Catenins

2023

Catenins are characterized by multiple binding domains and dynamic structures that allow them to function as linker proteins in cell junction complexes. All catenins, except α-catenin, contain a characteristic protein sequence called the armadillo repeat and are therefore also called armadillo proteins. Catenins in Cell Junctions Catenins bind to cell adhesion molecules such as cadherins and link them to different cytoskeletal proteins depending on the type of cell junction. At the adherens...

Beta

2024

Beta is a crucial metric in finance used to assess an investment's risk and expected return relative to the overall market. It is calculated as the slope of the line in a scatterplot that compares the returns of an individual stock to the returns of the market benchmark, typically represented by a broad market index. Beta quantifies how much a stock's price moves in response to market movements, providing insight into its volatility and systematic risk. A beta of one indicates that the stock's...

Characterization of pH-Dependent Reversible Self-Assembly of Amyloid Beta 1-40-Coated Gold Colloids

2025

Here, we present a systematic method describing the quasi-reversible self-assembly of the amyloid beta 1-40 (Aβ1-40)-coated 20 nm gold aggregates. The nano-size-dependent quasi-reversible networking between peptides was correlated with specific amino acids or sections of the Aβ1-40 monomer.

Cell-mediated lymphocytotoxicity (CML) assays can be used to test autoreactive responses and study mechanisms of cell death in vitro. However, using live-cell confocal microscopic imaging techniques with fluorescent dyes, the type and kinetics of cell death as well as the pathways utilized can be studied in greater detail.
