Embryo Long-term Storage

Embryo long-term storage is the preservation of embryos at very low temperatures so they can remain viable for future transfer, fertility treatment, or research. In cryopreservation, embryos are exposed to cryoprotective solutions that reduce ice formation before vitrification or controlled-rate freezing, then stored in liquid nitrogen and carefully warmed for use. This process supports in vitro fertilization by allowing embryos from one treatment cycle to be transferred later and enables fertility preservation in selected clinical settings. Reliable storage and warming protocols help maintain developmental potential while raising important considerations for monitoring, consent, identification, and long-term reproductive care.

In this video, we describe the procedure for vitrification of harvested rabbit embryos at desired development stage using ethylene glycol and dimethyl sulfoxide as cryoprotectants and cryogenic straw as the carrier system. The vitrified embryos have high survival rate and can be stored for an extended period until use.

A schema is a mental framework that helps individuals organize and interpret information. Schemata, formed from previous experiences, influence how we process new information: how we encode it, the inferences we make, and how we retrieve it. For instance, a schema for what a typical classroom looks like might include desks, a teacher's desk, a whiteboard, and students in such an environment. This expectation helps us quickly understand and navigate new classrooms without needing to analyze each...
