Rice Yield

Rice yield is the amount of grain produced by a rice crop per unit of land, making it a key measure of agricultural productivity, food security, and plant performance. It results from coordinated biological processes including photosynthesis, tiller formation, panicle development, fertilization, and grain filling, all of which depend on genotype, water availability, nutrients, temperature, and disease pressure. In biology, studying rice yield helps researchers connect plant growth and reproductive development with environmental responses, supporting crop breeding and improved cultivation practices. Yield analysis also provides a practical framework for evaluating traits that may increase productivity while conserving resources and strengthening food systems.

ATP Yield

2019

Cellular respiration produces 30 - 32 ATP per glucose molecule. Although most of the ATP results from oxidative phosphorylation and the electron transport chain (ETC), 4 ATP are gained beforehand (2 from glycolysis and 2 from the citric acid cycle). The ETC is embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane and is comprised of four main protein complexes and an ATP synthase. NADH and FADH2 pass electrons to these complexes, which pump protons into the intermembrane space. This distribution of...

The theoretical yield of a reaction is the amount of product estimated to form based on the stoichiometry of the balanced chemical equation. The theoretical yield assumes the complete conversion of the limiting reactant into the desired product. The amount of product that is obtained by performing the reaction is called the actual yield, and it may be less than or (very rarely) equal to the theoretical yield. Percent Yield In the case of chemical reactions, the actual yield of the product is...

Establishment of Rice Plant Leaf Infection through Fungal Inoculation via Wounding

2025

This video demonstrates the establishment of rice plant leaf infection through wounding inoculation with Magnaporthe grisea mycelium. The fungal spore-derived germ tube penetrates the epidermal layer, resulting in tissue infection and lesions on the leaves. This method aids pathotype screening and improves plant resistance understanding for molecular breeding.

A Spray Inoculation Technique to Establish Fungal Infection in Rice Plant Leaves

This video demonstrates a technique to establish the pathogenic fungus Magnaporthe grisea infection in rice plant leaves. The fungal conidia suspension is sprayed on sections of rice leaf, and the disease progression is assessed by scoring the formation of necrotic lesions.

Root-Mediated Endophytic Colonization of Beneficial Bacteria in Rice

Begin with rice seedlings pre-germinated under dark, aseptic conditions to ensure uniform sprouting.Transfer these seedlings to a flask containing a nutrient-rich, semi-solid medium pre-inoculated with a test bacterium. As the plant grows, the roots release chemotactic compounds into the surrounding medium. These compounds stimulate bacterial proliferation, leading to adhesion, multiplication, and colony formation on the root surface. As the roots develop, the bacteria enter the plant through...
