Gonadal Fat Removal

Gonadal fat removal is a surgical procedure that excises the adipose tissue surrounding the reproductive organs, commonly used in experimental cancer research to study how fat tissue influences disease. By removing this defined fat depot while maintaining other experimental conditions, researchers can assess changes in tumor growth, metabolism, inflammation, and treatment response. Gonadal adipose tissue can release hormones, lipids, cytokines, and immune-regulating signals that affect nearby and distant cells, making its removal a useful way to test cause-and-effect relationships. The approach supports studies of obesity-associated cancer mechanisms and may help identify interactions between adipose tissue, the tumor microenvironment, and therapeutic outcomes.

Gonadal and Placental Hormones

2026

The gonads, namely the testes in males and the ovaries in females, are pivotal in producing gonadal hormones that orchestrate the intricate processes of sexual development and reproduction. In males, testosterone is the primary gonadal androgen. It plays a central role in the maturation of male reproductive organs — the penis and testes. Additionally, testosterone is instrumental in the development of secondary sexual characteristics — a deep voice as well as facial and pubic hair growth — and...
