Aluminum Hydroxide Synthesis

Aluminum hydroxide synthesis is the chemical preparation of Al(OH)₃, an amphoteric compound valued for its controllable structure, reactivity, and broad industrial uses. A common method precipitates aluminum hydroxide by adding a base to an aqueous aluminum salt, causing dissolved aluminum ions to react with hydroxide ions; pH, temperature, mixing, and aging influence particle size, crystallinity, and purity. The precipitate can then be separated, washed, and dried to produce a defined material. In chemistry and materials research, synthesized aluminum hydroxide supports studies of precipitation and phase formation and serves as a precursor for alumina, an adsorbent, and a flame-retardant additive.

Stress-Strain Characteristics of Aluminum

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Aluminum is one of the most abundant materials in our lives, as it is omnipresent in everything from soda cans to airplane components. Its widespread use is relatively recent (1900AD), primarily because aluminum does not occur in its free state, but rather in combination with oxygen and other elements, often in the form of Al2O3. Aluminum was originally obtained from bauxite mineral deposits...

Synthesis and Decomposition Reactions

Synthesis and decomposition are two types of redox reactions. Synthesis means to make something, whereas decomposition means to break something. The reactions are accompanied by chemical and energy changes. Synthesis Reactions Synthesis reactions are also called combination reactions. It is a reaction in which two or more substances combine to form a complex substance. Synthesis reactions are generally represented as: A + B → AB or A + B → C. The formation of nitrogen dioxide is a synthesis...

Here, we present a protocol to synthesize and characterize Fe-doped aluminosilicate nanotubes. The materials are obtained by either sol-gel synthesis upon addition of FeCl3•6H2O to the mixture containing the Si and Al precursors or by post-synthesis ionic exchange of preformed aluminosilicate nanotubes.
