Cadmium Precursor Reaction

Cadmium precursor reactions are chemical transformations that convert a cadmium-containing starting compound into a reactive precursor for subsequent synthesis, making them important in inorganic and materials chemistry. Under controlled conditions, changes in temperature, solvent, concentration, and ligand environment alter cadmium coordination and reactivity, enabling the precursor to form cadmium species that participate in nucleation and growth. These reactions are used to prepare cadmium-based compounds and nanomaterials, where precursor reactivity influences composition, particle size, crystallinity, and surface chemistry. Understanding the reaction pathway supports reproducible synthesis while helping researchers manage cadmium’s toxicity and exposure risks.

We describe a small molecule-based protocol for differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells into oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs). This protocol generates Olig2+NG2+ OPCs with high efficiency by 30 days of differentiation. We also describe a method to generate "spiking" OPCs that can fire action potentials.

Notch signaling is a form of cellular communication that relies upon direct contact between cells. To properly induce Notch signaling in vitro, Notch ligands must be presented to cells in an immobilized state. This protocol describes methods for in vitro stimulation of Notch signaling in mouse osteoclast precursors.
