Gender Barriers

Gender barriers are social, institutional, and interpersonal factors that limit equitable participation, access, or outcomes for people of different genders in clinical settings. They can operate through gender bias, unequal representation in research and healthcare professions, communication patterns, discriminatory policies, and differences in access to diagnosis or treatment. Identifying these barriers helps clinicians and researchers assess how gender-related assumptions influence patient–provider interactions, study design, clinical decision-making, and health outcomes. Addressing them through inclusive practices, representative evidence, bias-aware training, and equitable policies can strengthen patient care and improve the relevance and fairness of clinical research.

A straight-forward set of methods to isolate and determine the identity of the most abundant proteins expressed in skeletal muscle. About 800 spots are discerned on a two-dimensional gel from 10 mg muscle; this allows for the determination of gender-specific protein expression. These methods will give equivalent results in most tissues.

Socioemotional Experience and Gender Development

2025

Social-emotional experiences and cultural influences play significant roles in shaping gender development. During middle childhood, from ages 6 to 11, peer groups become dominant in reinforcing gender norms. Children in this age group often align with same-gender peer groups, which actively encourage behaviors that conform to traditional gender roles. For instance, boys may be discouraged from engaging in activities perceived as feminine, reinforcing culturally dictated norms about masculinity...

Fathers may praise boys for bravery or assertiveness while responding more sensitively to girls. Gendered descriptions in books, divisions of household labor, and parental hobbies can also...

The aim of the protocol is to present an optimized procedure for the establishment of an in vitro blood-brain barrier (BBB) model based on primary porcine brain endothelial cells (pBECs). The model shows high reproducibility, high tightness, and is suitable for studies of transport and intracellular trafficking in drug discovery.
