Flow Sweep Procedure

The flow sweep procedure is a controlled measurement technique that evaluates how a material or system responds as flow rate or shear rate changes, making it useful for characterizing flow behavior in engineering. In rheological testing, an instrument progressively increases or decreases the applied shear rate while recording variables such as shear stress, viscosity, and torque under defined temperature and measurement conditions. The resulting flow curve can reveal shear thinning, shear thickening, yield behavior, or time-dependent effects. Engineers use these data to select materials, design processing equipment, optimize pumping and mixing, and predict performance in applications such as coatings, polymers, food products, and fuels.

An efficient method to obtain highly purified viable meiotic fractions from mouse testis is described, which combines a refined cell dissociation protocol with fluorescent activated cell sorting (FACS). This method takes advantage of differences in the DNA content and nuclear density of discrete meiotic fractions.

The micronucleus (MN) assay is a well-established test for quantifying DNA damage. However, scoring the assay using conventional techniques such as manual microscopy or feature-based image analysis is laborious and challenging. This paper describes the methodology to develop an artificial intelligence model to score the MN assay using imaging flow cytometry data.

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Mice and rats account for a large proportion of the animals used in biomedical research. Ensuring their welfare is both an ethical responsibility and essential for scientific validity. There are general procedures that apply to the majority of these mice and rats, but some of the animals, such as the immunocompromised ones, require additional steps to be taken to sustain them for...

We have developed a decellularized lung extracellular matrix and novel biomimetic bioreactor that can be used to generate functional lung tissue. By seeding cells into the matrix and culturing in the bioreactor, we generate tissue that demonstrates effective gas exchange when transplanted in vivo for short periods of time.
