Spray Inoculation

Spray inoculation is a technique for introducing microorganisms into an environmental system by distributing a liquid inoculum as droplets over a defined target. A microbial suspension passes through a spray nozzle, which disperses cells across surfaces, soil, plant material, or other substrates; droplet size, coverage, moisture, and environmental conditions influence deposition and subsequent survival or colonization. Researchers use spray inoculation to study microbial establishment, interactions between organisms and their surroundings, and the performance of biological treatments under controlled or field conditions. Standardized application can improve experimental consistency while helping assess how environmental factors shape microbial activity and persistence.

A Spray Inoculation Technique to Establish Fungal Infection in Rice Plant Leaves

2025

This video demonstrates a technique to establish the pathogenic fungus Magnaporthe grisea infection in rice plant leaves. The fungal conidia suspension is sprayed on sections of rice leaf, and the disease progression is assessed by scoring the formation of necrotic lesions.

The Plant Infection Test: Spray and Wound-Mediated Inoculation with the Plant Pathogen Magnaporthe Grisea

2016

We present protocols to be used in the measurement of spray droplet size from agricultural nozzles used in both aerial and ground based agrochemical applications. These methods presented were developed to provide consistent and repeatable droplet size data both inter- and intra-laboratory, when using laser diffraction systems.

Topical Airway Anesthesia for Awake-endoscopic Intubation Using the Spray-as-you-go Technique with High Oxygen Flow

The topical anesthetic lidocaine was atomized using a high oxygen flow through the working channel of a flexible intubating endoscope to achieve topical airway anesthesia for awake endotracheal intubation. We prefer this modified spray-as-you-go technique for endoscopic intubation to classical bolus application because of higher patient satisfaction and better compliance.

Spray-Coated Melanin/PEDOT:PSS Films for Sustainable Organic Electrochemical Transistors

2025

A basic protocol for fabricating high-transconductance Melanin/PEDOT:PSS organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) using spray coating is described. The method allows precise control over film deposition, thickness, and morphology, providing reproducible devices for sustainable and scalable bioelectronic applications.
