Autoimmune Kidney Disease

Autoimmune kidney disease is a group of disorders in which the immune system mistakenly targets kidney tissues, disrupting filtration and potentially causing progressive renal damage. The process may involve autoantibodies, immune-complex deposition, or immune cells that trigger inflammation in the glomeruli, the structures that filter blood, leading to protein or blood in the urine and reduced kidney function. In immunology and infection research, these diseases provide models for studying immune tolerance, inflammation, and the distinction between autoimmune responses and infection-related injury. Understanding their mechanisms supports earlier diagnosis and guides therapies that control harmful immunity while preserving essential host defense.

Parasite Induced Genetically Driven Autoimmune Chagas Heart Disease in the Chicken Model

The inoculation of Trypanosoma cruzi in fertile eggs prior to incubation renders the parasite kDNA minicircle integration in embryo cells genome. Crossbreeding reveals the vertical transfer of the mutations to progeny. The kDNA integrates into coding regions at several chromosomes and the chickens die with an inflammatory autoimmune heart disease.

Chronic Kidney Disease I: Introduction

2025

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) arises when the kidneys progressively lose their ability to function, ultimately leading to end-stage renal disease. At this advanced stage, the kidneys can no longer filter waste or maintain essential body functions, requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT) through dialysis or a kidney transplant for survival.Early-stage chronic kidney disease and detection challengesIn CKD's early stages, symptoms often remain absent because healthy nephrons compensate for...
