Cluster Analysis Thresholding

Cluster Analysis Thresholding is a data-analysis approach that sets decision boundaries to distinguish meaningful groups within complex measurements, making patterns easier to interpret and compare. It works by applying a defined cutoff to similarity, distance, density, or another cluster-related measure, so observations are assigned to the same group, separated into different groups, or treated as background; the threshold can be adjusted to balance sensitivity and specificity. In immunology and infection research, this process can help resolve immune-cell populations, classify response profiles, and identify sample patterns associated with infection. Consistent thresholds improve reproducibility and support quantitative analysis across experiments.

The Staircase Procedure for Finding a Perceptual Threshold

2023

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Psychophysics is the name for a set of methods in perceptual psychology designed in order to relate the actual intensity of stimuli to their perceptual intensity. One important aspect of psychophysics involves the measurement of perceptual thresholds: How bright does a light need to be for a person to be able to detect it? How little pressure applied to the skin is detectable? How soft can a sound be and still be heard? Put...

Here, we describe a rapid reliable and simple procedure to determine the lowest temperature at which rats or mice show nocifensive behavior, i.e. the thermal nociceptive threshold (TNT). This method applies a slowly increasing thermal stimulus allowing precise and reproducible estimation of TNTs with minimum, if any, stress to the animals.

Spatial Separation of Molecular Conformers and Clusters

We present a technique that allows the spatial separation of different conformers or clusters present in a molecular beam. An electrostatic deflector is used to separate species by their mass-to-dipole moment ratio, leading to the production of gas-phase ensembles of a single conformer or cluster stoichiometry.
