3d Robotic Ultrasound

3D robotic ultrasound is an imaging approach that uses a robotic system to control an ultrasound transducer and acquire multiple two-dimensional scans for reconstruction into three-dimensional views of internal anatomy. The robot maintains a planned probe position, orientation, or scanning path while ultrasound waves are transmitted into tissue and returning echoes are processed into images, improving acquisition consistency and enabling volumetric assessment. In medicine, this technology can support fetal, cardiac, musculoskeletal, and abdominal imaging, particularly when standardized examinations or remote operation are valuable. By reducing operator-dependent variation and facilitating image-guided procedures, 3D robotic ultrasound may strengthen diagnostic workflows, training, and access to specialized imaging.

We describe a new ultrasound-based vector tissue Doppler imaging technique to measure muscle contraction velocity, strain and strain rate with sub-millisecond temporal resolution during dynamic activities. This approach provides complementary measurements of dynamic muscle function and could lead to a better understanding of mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal disorders.
