Biopsy Channel Infusion

Biopsy channel infusion is an endoscopic technique that delivers fluid or therapeutic material through an instrument’s biopsy channel into a targeted area, enabling controlled intervention without removing the scope. It works by connecting a syringe or infusion system to the working channel and applying controlled pressure to pass the solution through the distal opening while the operator monitors delivery under direct visualization. This approach can clear blood or debris, deliver local agents, or support tissue sampling and hemostatic procedures when appropriate. In clinical medicine, biopsy channel infusion integrates fluid delivery with endoscopic diagnosis and treatment, potentially improving visualization and enabling precise, minimally invasive management of focal lesions.

The movement of ions like sodium, potassium, and calcium into and out of the cell is essential to maintain the electrochemical gradient in living cells. The ion channels—a class of membrane transport proteins—help maintain this ionic gradient for the smooth functioning of physiological activities such as maintaining cell size and volume, conducting nerve impulses, and gas and nutrient exchange. Ion channels are specialized integral membrane proteins on the plasma membrane that allow specific...
