Interleukin-6 Dosing

Interleukin-6 dosing is the process of selecting and adjusting the amount and schedule of an IL-6-based or IL-6-targeting treatment to achieve a therapeutic response while limiting toxicity. Its biological rationale depends on IL-6 signaling, in which the cytokine binds membrane-bound or soluble IL-6 receptors and activates gp130-associated JAK/STAT pathways that regulate inflammation, immune responses, and tissue repair. In medicine, dosing decisions may account for the treatment indication, route of administration, patient characteristics, disease activity, and laboratory findings. Appropriate dosing supports consistent therapeutic effects and helps guide monitoring for inadequate response, excessive immune suppression, or other treatment-related complications.

This video demonstrates a procedure of fecal microbiota transplantation in an interleukin-10 deficient mouse with colon inflammation. Colonized fecal microbes in the gut release secondary metabolites, eliciting anti-inflammatory cytokine release and reducing colon inflammation.

Generating the 6-hydroxydopamine Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease

This video demonstrates a procedure to create a rat model of Parkinson's disease by injecting the neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) into the brain. The neurotoxin infusion into the medial forebrain bundle (MFB) specifically targets dopaminergic neurons responsible for motor control, leading to their destruction and replicating Parkinson's disease symptoms.

2025

Determining the optimal dose size and dosing frequency in pharmacotherapy is crucial for achieving therapeutic effectiveness while minimizing adverse effects. This article explores the methodologies employed in determining these parameters, focusing on their significance and interplay to tailor dosing regimens.Dose Size: Dose size refers to the amount of a drug administered in a single dose. It is determined based on the drug's pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics properties and...
