Intraoperative Bleeding Reduction

Intraoperative bleeding reduction is the prevention and control of blood loss during surgery, an important component of patient safety and perioperative care. It works through coordinated hemostasis, including precise tissue dissection, mechanical control of blood vessels with sutures or clips, energy-based sealing, topical hemostatic materials, and, when appropriate, pharmacologic treatment that supports clot formation. These approaches can improve surgical visualization, reduce transfusion requirements, and limit complications associated with excessive blood loss. In medicine, studying bleeding-reduction strategies helps teams tailor care to the procedure, patient risk factors, and available monitoring, supporting safer recovery and more efficient surgical practice.

Oxidation–Reduction Reactions Earth’s atmosphere contains about 20% molecular oxygen, O2, a chemically reactive gas that plays an essential role in the metabolism of aerobic organisms and in many environmental processes that shape the world. The term oxidation was originally used to describe chemical reactions involving O2, but its meaning has evolved to refer to a broad and important reaction class known as oxidation–reduction (redox) reactions. Some redox reactions involve the transfer of...

Intraoperative video consultation expedites and improves surgical care. Here, we present a case where intraoperative video consultation between a rural hospital and an academic hepatobiliary surgeon facilitated immediate diagnosis of bile duct transection during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, direct to operating room transfer between centers, and injury repair with robotic-assisted Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy.

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.

Bleeding in Fresh Concrete

2024

Bleeding in fresh concrete occurs when water from the mix rises to the surface. This happens because the mix's solid components fail to retain all the water as they settle, leading to separation where water collects at the top. The severity of bleeding can be measured by assessing the total settlement or by noting the decrease in height per unit height of concrete. Bleeding can cause several issues in the concrete structure. Sometimes, the rising water gets trapped beneath large aggregate...
