Metal Insufflation Hook

A metal insufflation hook is a specialized medical instrument used to help access or stabilize tissue while gas is introduced into a body cavity or hollow anatomical space. Its rigid hooked tip engages the target area, while an attached insufflation system delivers gas under controlled pressure to create distension and improve visualization or working room. In procedural medicine, this instrument supports examination, surgery, and tissue manipulation by combining mechanical access with pressure-controlled insufflation. Its safe use depends on sterile technique, careful control of gas volume and pressure, and selecting a design appropriate for the relevant anatomy and procedure.

Source: Ketron Mitchell-Wynne, PhD, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Potential energy is an important concept in physics. Potential energy is the energy associated with forces that depend upon the position of an object relative to its surroundings. Gravitational potential energy, which is discussed in another video, is the energy associated that is directly proportional to the height of an object above...

Hooke's Law

2024

Hooke's law, a pivotal principle in material science, establishes that the strain a material undergoes is directly proportional to the applied stress, defined by a factor called the modulus of elasticity or Young's modulus. The implementation of Hooke's law holds true until the material reaches its proportional limit. Beyond this point, the stress-strain relationship becomes nonlinear. This limit often coincides with the yield point for materials that are ductile in nature. However,...

Generalized Hooke's Law

The generalized Hooke's Law is a broadened version of Hooke's Law, which extends to all types of stress and in every direction. Consider an isotropic material shaped into a cube subjected to multiaxial loading. In this scenario, normal stresses are exerted along the three coordinate axes. As a result of these stresses, the cubic shape deforms into a rectangular parallelepiped. Despite this deformation, the new shape maintains equal sides, and there is a normal strain in the direction of the...

During development of drugs for pulmonary delivery, it is necessary to evaluate pharmacokinetics and efficacy in an animal model. We present a method to build a disposable aerosol dispersion system from of-the-shelf components that can be used to administer intrapulmonary dry powder aerosol to rodents.

Quadruply Metal-Metal Bonded Paddlewheels

Source: Corey Burns, Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University Paddlewheel complexes are a class of compounds comprised of two metal ions (1st, 2nd, or 3rd row transition metals) held in proximity by four bridging ligands (most commonly formamidinates or carboxylates) (Figure 1). Varying the identity of the metal ion and the bridging ligand provides access to large families of paddlewheel complexes. The structure of paddlewheel complexes allows for metal-metal bonding,...
