Plasma Lipid Analysis

Plasma lipid analysis is the measurement and characterization of lipids circulating in blood plasma, providing insight into metabolism, cardiovascular health, inflammation, and disease. In a typical workflow, lipids are extracted from plasma, separated by chromatographic methods, and identified and quantified using mass spectrometry or other analytical techniques based on molecular mass and chemical properties. The resulting lipid profile can include cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, and signaling molecules, revealing changes in lipid pathways and metabolic states. In medicine, these measurements support biomarker discovery, disease classification, treatment monitoring, and research into personalized approaches to diagnosis and prevention.

Lipid polyesters constitute the structural components of two cell wall modifications, the plant cuticle and suberin-containing diffusion barriers. In this video, we describe a method to depolymerize cutin from whole delipidated leaves. The method can be applied to investigating mutants compromised in either cutin or suberin biosynthesis.
