Speckle Tracking Algorithm

The speckle tracking algorithm is an image-analysis method that follows distinctive patterns, or speckles, across sequential medical images to measure tissue motion without relying on visible anatomical landmarks. It compares the location of each speckle between frames, calculates displacement and velocity, and can derive deformation, or strain, in multiple directions. In medicine, speckle tracking is used most widely with echocardiography to assess myocardial contraction, ventricular mechanics, and regional function. These quantitative measurements can reveal subtle abnormalities that may not be apparent from conventional imaging, supporting earlier diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring of cardiovascular disease.

Speckle tracking echocardiography is an emerging diagnostic imaging technique for the quantitative assessment of global and regional myocardial performance. Standard view echocardiographic motion images are recorded and deformation parameters are subsequently measured by automated continuous frame-by-frame tracking and motion analysis of speckles within the B-mode images of the myocardium.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In a staggeringly complex and engaging world, it is crucial to selectively process some stimuli at the expense of others. Experimental psychologists call this ability attention. Specifically, visual attention refers to the ability to selectively process aspects of a visual scene. Many paradigms used to study visual attention involve brief, punctuated, and repeated trials. However, everyday situations often place sustained demands...

Trial and Error and Algorithm

A problem-solving strategy is a plan of action used to find a solution. Different strategies have distinct action plans. Trial and error involves trying different solutions until one works. For instance, to fix a broken printer, you might check ink levels, ensure the paper tray isn't jammed, and verify the printer's connection to your laptop. This method can be time-consuming but is commonly used. Thomas Edison, for example, used trial and error to find a suitable filament for the light bulb,...
