Mouse Brain Implantation

Mouse brain implantation is a neuroscience technique in which a device, probe, or biological material is placed within or onto the brain of a mouse to study neural structure and function. Under anesthesia and using stereotactic guidance, researchers position the implant at a defined brain coordinate, secure it to the skull when needed, and monitor the animal during recovery and experimentation. Implanted electrodes and optical fibers can record or modulate neural activity, while cannulas enable localized delivery of drugs or other substances. These approaches support investigations of circuits, behavior, disease mechanisms, and treatment responses, providing controlled access to the living brain.

Implantation of an Electrode Assembly in a Mouse Brain for Electrophysiological Recording

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for implanting an electrode assembly into a mouse brain. The assembly contains bipolar electrodes to record activity from the hippocampus and a reference electrode to obtain baseline activity from the cerebellum. An anesthetized mouse is placed on a stereotaxic frame, and the electrode assembly is implanted in the target brain region. The animal is then allowed to recover before performing electrophysiological recording.

In this video, we demonstrate the assembly of a micro-osmotic pump brain infusion system followed by its surgical implantation in the mouse skull. This system enables continuous delivery of potential drugs and facilitates the study of their effects on the brain and brain tissue.

Intracranial Cannular Implantation in a Mouse to Deliver Therapeutic Agents to Brain Tumors

This video presents a procedure for intracranial cannula implantation in a brain tumor mouse model, to facilitate the administration of an immunotherapeutic agent. The delivery of glypican-2-specific chimeric antigen receptor T cells in the tumor microenvironment triggers T cell activation, resulting in tumor lysis and tumor regression.
