Pvdf-trfe Conduit

A PVDF-TrFE conduit is a nerve guidance structure made from poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene), a ferroelectric polymer used to support peripheral nerve repair. Its piezoelectric behavior allows mechanical deformation, such as movement or physiological forces, to generate localized electrical charges that can provide stimulation relevant to neuronal growth and signaling. As a three-dimensional scaffold, the conduit can guide regenerating axons across a nerve gap while isolating the repair site and supporting tissue organization. In neuroscience research, PVDF-TrFE conduits are investigated as bioactive alternatives to passive nerve guides, with potential applications in peripheral nerve regeneration and electrically responsive neural interfaces.

(2017)This video demonstrates the use of a piezoelectric polymer conduit seeded with Schwann cells to promote axon regeneration in a transected rat spinal cord. The conduit provides structural guidance, while its bioelectric properties stimulate neurite outgrowth. Schwann cells within the conduit secrete...

The Use of the Ex Vivo Chandler Loop Apparatus to Assess the Biocompatibility of Modified Polymeric Blood Conduits

Blood exposure to polymeric blood conduits initiates the foreign body reaction that has been implicated in clinical complications. Here, the Chandler Loop Apparatus, an experimental tool mimicking blood perfusion through these conduits, is described. Appendage of recombinant CD47 results in decreased evidence of the foreign body reaction on these conduits.

We describe a novel intrathoracic esophagogastric anastomotic technique designed to create a large diameter anastomosis while simultaneously maintaining conduit blood supply to minimize the incidence of anastomotic leaks and strictures. Construction and orientation of the stomach conduit designed to optimize upper gastrointestinal tract function is also described.
