Circumstance Control Strategies

Circumstance control strategies are psychological approaches that manage stress or behavior by changing aspects of a situation rather than responding only to its emotional effects. They typically involve identifying controllable conditions, defining a desired outcome, and using planning, problem-solving, environmental modification, or resource seeking to alter triggers and available choices. In psychology, these strategies help explain how people cope with demands, regulate behavior, and increase perceived control when circumstances are changeable. They inform stress-management programs, clinical interventions, health behavior research, and studies of adaptation, while also clarifying when acceptance or emotion-focused approaches may be more appropriate than direct situational change.

In this interview, Jason Rasgon explains the concept of genetic drive and the characteristics of an effective gene drive system. The use of the endosymbiotic bacterium, Wolbachia pipientis, as a means to spread genes through mosquito populations, is hypothesized.

Microbial Control and Monitoring Strategies for Cleanroom Environments and Cellular Therapies

The protocol summarizes the best practices to minimize microbial bioburden in a cleanroom environment and includes strategies such as environmental monitoring, process monitoring, and product sterility testing. It is relevant for manufacturing and testing facilities that are required to meet current good tissue practice standards and current good manufacturing practice standards.

Here we describe two non-invasive methods to chronically control neuronal activity using chemogenetics in mice. Eye-drops were used to deliver clozapine-N-oxide (CNO) daily. We also describe two methods for prolonged administration of CNO in drinking water. These strategies for chronic neuronal control require minimal intervention reducing animals’ stress.

Set-shifting, a form of behavioral flexibility, requires an attentional shift from one stimulus dimension to another. We extended an established rodent set-shifting task1 by requiring attention to different stimuli according to context. The task was combined with specific lesions to identify neuron subtypes underlying a successful shift.
