Post-switch Phase

The post-switch phase is the period immediately after a person changes from one task, rule, or behavioral context to another, when performance reflects the ongoing adjustment to the new demands. During this phase, cognitive control processes reconfigure task goals, update working-memory representations, and suppress responses associated with the previous task, which can temporarily affect response speed and accuracy. In psychology, examining the post-switch phase helps researchers measure cognitive flexibility, executive control, and switch costs. Findings inform models of attention and learning and may clarify how people adapt to changing instructions, environments, and competing demands.

Switching of BJT

2024

Switching behavior in Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) is a fundamental aspect utilized in various electronic circuits, particularly for digital logic applications like switches and amplifiers. In a typical switching circuit, a BJT alternates between cut-off and saturation modes, corresponding to the "off" and "on" states, respectively, thus behaving like an ideal switch. Cut-off Mode ("Off" State): In this state, both the emitter-base and collector-base junctions are reverse-biased. The...

2011

A modified 3-D in vitro system is presented in which growth characteristics of several tumor cell lines in reconstituted basement membrane correlate with the dormant or proliferative behavior of the tumor cells at a metastatic secondary site in vivo.

Single Phase Inverter

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. DC power is unidirectional and flows in one direction, whereas, AC current alternates directions at a frequency of 50-60 Hz. Most common electronic devices are designed to run off of AC power; therefore an input DC source must be inverted to AC. Inverters convert DC voltage to AC through switching action that repeatedly flips the polarity of the input DC source at the output or load side for part of...

Measuring the Switch Cost of Smartphone Use While Walking

2020

This study design measures the task-switching cost of using a smartphone while walking. Participants undergo two experimental conditions: a control condition (walking) and a multitasking condition (texting while walking). Participants switch between these tasks and a direction determining task. EEG data as well as behavioral measures are recorded.

Phase Diagrams

2020

A phase diagram combines plots of pressure versus temperature for the liquid-gas, solid-liquid, and solid-gas phase-transition equilibria of a substance. These diagrams indicate the physical states that exist under specific conditions of pressure and temperature and also provide the pressure dependence of the phase-transition temperatures (melting points, sublimation points, boiling points). Regions or areas labeled solid, liquid, and gas represent single phases, while lines or curves represent...
