Exposure Outcome

Exposure-outcome analysis examines how a measured exposure, such as a treatment, behavior, or environmental condition, relates to a health or research outcome. In statistics, researchers define exposure and outcome variables, compare outcome frequencies or averages across exposure groups, and use methods such as regression to estimate the strength and direction of association while accounting for uncertainty and potential confounding. These analyses support hypothesis testing, risk estimation, and evidence-based interpretation across clinical studies, public health research, and observational datasets. Careful study design and transparent reporting help distinguish statistical association from evidence of causation.

As legislative restrictions change, resulting in increased accessibility of cannabinoid products, it is critically important to develop models to study the impact of these exposures, particularly during pregnancy. A preclinical model of moderate prenatal cannabinoid exposure through voluntary ingestion has been developed, enabling more in-depth investigations.

Developing a Salivary Antibody Multiplex Immunoassay to Measure Human Exposure to Environmental Pathogens

In the current climate of scarce resources, new technologies are emerging that allow researchers to conduct studies cheaper, faster and with more precision. Here we describe the development of a bead-based salivary antibody multiplex immunoassay to measure human exposure to multiple environmental pathogens simultaneously.

A whole-body nanoparticle aerosol inhalation exposure facility was constructed for nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) inhalation toxicology studies. This system provides nano-TiO2 aerosol test atmospheres that have: 1) a steady mass concentration; 2) a homogenous composition free of contaminants; and 3) a stable particle size distribution during aerosol generation.
