Occupational Study

An occupational study is a systematic investigation of jobs, workplace conditions, worker characteristics, or employment-related outcomes, often using statistics to identify patterns and relationships. Researchers define a target population, collect data through surveys, records, or direct measurements, and apply sampling, descriptive statistics, hypothesis tests, or regression models to estimate effects while accounting for variability and potential confounding factors. These studies can evaluate workplace exposures, injury rates, productivity, job satisfaction, and health disparities. Their findings support evidence-based decisions in occupational health, workforce planning, policy development, and the design of safer, more equitable working environments.

2025

Position a human participant’s head within the head coil of a functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI, system.Employ vascular space occupancy or VASO, a technique to measure changes in cerebral blood volume, or CBV, the blood volume within the brain.Begin by applying an inversion recovery pulse to suppress signals from blood, allowing only signals from the surrounding tissue within the region to be detected.Next, use MRI-compatible earbuds to deliver auditory stimuli. The stimuli reach...

Collection and Extraction of Occupational Air Samples for Analysis of Fungal DNA

Determining the fungal diversity within an environment is a method utilized in occupational health studies to identify health hazards. This protocol describes DNA extraction from occupational air samples for amplification and sequencing of fungal ITS regions. This approach detects many fungal species that can be overlooked by traditional assessment methods.

Methods to Investigate the Regulatory Role of Small RNAs and Ribosomal Occupancy of Plasmodium falciparum

2015

Human microRNAs translocate from host erythrocytes to Plasmodium falciparum parasites. Here, the techniques used to transfect synthetic microRNAs into host erythrocytes and isolate all RNAs from P. falciparum are described. In addition, this paper will detail a method of polysome isolation in P. falciparum to determine the ribosomal occupancy and translational potential of parasite transcripts.
